You Survived Your First Semester of High School, Now What
You Survived Your First Semester of High School, Now What Irvine High School Tutoring Tips: So you survived your first semester of high school, now what? Irvine High School Tutoring Tips: So you survived your first semester of high school, now what? Congratulations to all of the students who are finishing up their first semester of 9th grade! Aside from college, this is one of the biggest transitions students will ever face. High school level learning offers more work, tighter deadlines, and more independence. Coming from middle school, students are faced with an entirely new gamut of responsibility essential to their success now as well as during their college prep years perform even better in the second semester with private Irvine high school tutoring from TutorNerds (we have tutors in every subject). 1. A reward for hard work Students have worked hard to complete their transition to high school and will be heavily rewarded with⦠more hard work. This is the unfortunate truth when it comes to a high school education. Students barely have time to practice what theyve already conquered when more information is thrown at them. In the working world, most people have the opportunity to practice their newfound skills and refine them before they are given an opportunity to move on to the next level. High school students are expected to take in tons of information in just a short period, but one of the best coping mechanisms for this is to learn how to pace yourself. 2. Pace yourself High school is a marathon, not a sprint. Students who can break their learning up into smaller chunks and add adequate rest are more likely to be successful academically while maintaining a level of happiness. Learning how to pace also helps students lower their stress levels and enjoy all aspects of their life at this stage. Many students want to start and finish an assignment in one sitting, something that was possible in middle school, but discover they generally need several study sessions to finish long assignments. Pacing takes a lot of practice so students should remember they may have to face some trial and error before they find a system that works well for them (READ: 5 Ways for Students to Adjust After Holiday Break). 3. Develop good study habits Another thing thats extremely important at the high school level is to develop good study habits; certain things are universal. Students need to leave adequate time to finish assignments and also avoid procrastination. However, each learner is an individual and will have varying academic needs. 9th graders need to develop more independence as well as be able to communicate with the teacher when they dont understand something. At this level students are expected to start the conversation rather than wait for the teacher to ask them if they need help. 4. Create an open line of communication with the teacher In elementary school, students are usually all too happy to raise their hand to ask or answer a question. Unfortunately, this type of enthusiasm tends to disappear during the middle school years. Part of the transition to high school is learning to regain his enthusiasm and be a self-starter when it comes to communication. Students should ask the teacher questions during class or at a specific Q A session if available. At this level students can also email teachers if they want to speak privately or if an important question comes up during at-home study sessions. 5. Choose your friends wisely Now that students have finished their first semester of 9th grade they should think about making good choices when it comes to socialization as they move forward. Peers will be more or less interested in their education, and some students will encourage their friends to study hard and have good priorities. Other students may provide an unwelcome distraction. A great group of supportive and motivated friends can make all the difference during their high school years. All blog entries, with the exception of guest bloggers, are written by Tutor Nerds. What Is A Vigorous Tutor?
What Is A Vigorous Tutor? In many classrooms, what is the difference between a student and a teacher? The difference is that students are learners and teachers are not. Teachers do some things and students do other things but this is far from the reality of real learning. True learning is the interplay of two opposing forces: an individual's personal mindset and the teaching environment.True learning is by definition interactive. This means that there has to be a context for your own personal way of learning. Although this is true in any classroom setting, what is enthusiastic tutoring? An enthusiastic tutor encourages the student to apply what they have learned, to become an expert in their field, to hone their skills and to apply them in order to receive and improve on new knowledge. This enables the student to apply what they have learned to their individual career development as well as the way in which they interact with others. We can categorize students into three categories: st udents who like to learn more than the teacher does, students who want to learn from the teacher but don't want to get it all done by the teacher and students who are content with the state of the art knowledge. The third category is a student who is comfortable with the working knowledge. This student generally wants to learn more and is much more likely to ask questions and learn independently. However, they may also be prepared to seek assistance when required. An avid tutor is the best resource for this type of student.Students who want to learn more than the teacher does usually feel dissatisfied in class. Their role models are usually self-help books, which tell them to read books or magazines and ask the instructor to elaborate on points that they feel they don't understand. When they don't get an answer or explanations, they feel disappointed and expect the same of the teacher. In a way, this is true because students need to be supported with answers to all their questions an d it is only through interaction with an enthusiastic tutor that they will receive support. Students who believe that the instructor is a good person who will help them obtain what they want in life tend to receive assistance. On the other hand, students who are dissatisfied with the way things are are more likely to demand assistance from the teacher. Therefore, when a student is receiving what they believe to be incorrect information, they tend to voice their dissatisfaction with the teacher.Teachers, as teachers, often sense this dissatisfaction and respond to it by requesting better clarification and evidence for answers they give. Although this helps, it is not the way to a student's heart. A teacher must acknowledge that their knowledge is limited and that their capability to help their students reach their goals is limited as well. This is why they must give the student a chance to learn what they can and show them what they cannot do. Only then will they discover what they d o not know or realize that they can do much more.An instructor is the one who provides the student with this opportunity. They provide the environment for the student to become comfortable with the subject matter. They act as the facilitator between the student and the instructor and they give the student the tools that they need to become more knowledgeable. When a student uses this knowledge, it helps them perform better in their career, gain confidence in their skills and their relationships and most importantly it increases their skills so that they are confident and they do not hesitate to ask for advice.

Overcoming Age Discrimination in the Hiring Process - Introvert Whisperer
Introvert Whisperer / Overcoming Age Discrimination in the Hiring Process - Introvert Whisperer Overcoming Age Discrimination in the Hiring Process The unemployment rate in the U.S. dropped to 3.9 percent in July 2018, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), a figure significantly lower than 10 years ago, when unemployment rates hovered somewhere between 9 and 10 percent. So, if youâre in the market for a new job, there hasnât been a better time to find work. And if youâre an older workerâ"defined as anyone 55 years older and upâ"the BLS further reports that the unemployment rates have actually stayed fairly steady over the past two years, remaining around 3-3.5 percent. And as far as the rate of elderly workers in the workforce goes, this figure is actually continuing to rise. Elderly Workers Increasing In The U.S. In February 2017, the BLS published an article based on a March 2014 Current Population Survey that indicates that the age of the average worker has increased over the past couple of decades, with those 65 and older increasing 3.4 percent between 1990 and 2010. This is almost quadruple the increase for workers under the age of 65, which is only 0.9 percent.
Minimize The Need To Network 5 Ways Maintain the Relationships You Have - Introvert Whisperer
Introvert Whisperer / Minimize The Need To Network 5 Ways Maintain the Relationships You Have - Introvert Whisperer Minimize The Need To Network: 5 Ways Maintain the Relationships You Have Suppose youâre the kind of person that hates to network. Then, suppose youâre also smart enough to realize that job opportunities and other career milestones will only occur with and through people you know. Just to make this story realistic, youâre a bit lazy. (Not being insulting just reflecting reality for most people) The first law of networking is that its dynamic and constantly changing as people come into and out of your life. It requires âreplenishmentâ just to keep it somewhat the same size. Maintaining the same size may also not be your best strategy at the moment, you may need to be expanding it. Those things happen especially if you can foresee a day when you will be looking for a job. What could you possibly do to reduce the need for so much networking? Answer: Maintain the relationships you have now and rekindle the ones youâve made in the past. Letâs look at some of the things you could be doing to maximize your time playing games and minimize networking: Dig up long lost people â" The best place to do that is on Linked In. It allows you to search for people by name and also but employer past or present. Youâd be surprised at the people you can dig up from previous employers and colleagues. Itâs fun to find these people and they always appreciate being found. Catching up after you connect is the next step and when you do, youâll discover how quickly that person is back in your orbit. Make a schedule â" Itâs too easy to let life and work sweep you into the next year without lifting a finger to stay in touch. You donât have to spend an hour on the phone with each person youâve ever met. With a bit of planning, you can email or text most people every 4-5 months which takes just minutes to do. Put an hour each week in your busy schedule to do your âmaintenanceâ with your network. If a full hour feels like too much, break it up into 2 half hours chunks, at a time where you will feel like you can do it without stressing. Make calls to the âupper tierâ â" We all have people that fall into the category of spending more quality time. It doesnât matter what the reason is. With these people, you need a more personal touch like a phone call. Use some of your weekly scheduled time to generate 1 or 2 calls to this group. Coffee, lunch or dinner â" In the âupper tierâ of your network are those people where you want to take the personal touch a bit further with some face time. Because these are events that require scheduling, travel time and time together, you wonât do too many of these but a couple per month should be what you shoot for. When you travel â" If you have the occasion to travel for business or play, check who in your network is in the area where you will be going. Anyone you know will be flattered that you went out of your way to meet up with them when you are in town. This is especially good when traveling alone on business. You are often left to dine alone and this can boost dinner for both of you. Over the years, I have found most people are fairly poor at holding up their end of maintaining a relationship. Itâs not because they arenât interested. Itâs because itâs just too easy to let life intervene. Those same people will love and appreciate the effort you make to stay in touch.
